Barkly Street Collective

Barkly Street Collective

The Barkly Street Collective is a beautifully designed workshare space located in Melbourne, Australia, activated and enabled by HIP V. HYPE.

It attracts makers and creators that share a belief in the power of business to affect positive change.

Most members, but not all, work in the built environment realm.

They share a keen interest in environmental and social sustainability.

And they are passionate about creating better products, services, systems, and buildings for the future we all deserve.

Their aim is to foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and mutual success for members of the collective.

The Barkly Street Collective is located opposite Wide Open Road cafe in Brunswick, an inner city suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

It’s the second collective workshare designed and activated by HIP V. HYPE.

The space combines as a workshare, product showroom, and flexible event space.

With this project, HIP V. HYPE strived for quality, durability, and value.

Low-impact, responsibly-sourced products and materials with low embodied energy were mandatory.

HIP V. HYPE’s collaboration with leading local and international product designers and service providers has created a unique studio experience here.

The space features timber-framed double-glazed windows made by Binq, a local window manufacturer.

Binq matches European technology with local innovation and materials.

The European style Tilt Turn windows fill the space with natural light and deliver stacks of cross flow ventilation too.

The kitchen was a collaboration with Cantilever Interiors, jointly designed and hand-built by them in their Brunswick East workshop.

This kitchen was made to last.

It features an expansive 5.2-meter stainless steel benchtop paired with wire-brushed blackbutt veneer joinery.

Low-impact cooking features here too.

The kitchen sports a stove from V-ZUG, a Swiss manufacturer of premium appliances.

The bathroom features Artedomus tiles and Brodware tapware.

Brodware is committed to design authenticity, innovation, and quality; designing, engineering, and manufacturing their products in Australia.

They unite genuine materials, expert detailing, exquisite proportion, and craftsmanship to create functional sculptures.

The space also features desks and chairs by Herman Miller and storage units by Planex.

Urban Commons‘ planter boxes line the east-facing windows along the laneway to provide added greenery, and protection from the morning sun.

Every aspect of this design by HIP V. HYPE has been resolved with delivering sustainability and a first-rate user experience top of mind.
