VCA Grant Street Theatre

This project at the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts involved the upgrade of a valued heritage building – the old Police Drill Hall.

Prior to this project, the Grant Street Theatre was a purpose‑built drama theatre.

Six Degrees Architects‘ brief was to modify it, so that it could operate as a multi‑purpose theatre, suitable for dance, drama, performance, and rehearsals.

The VCA wanted the space to be able to be used for events, and to include a permanent bar to support both the multi‑purpose space and to operate independently as a support space (stand alone bar).

The Six Degrees Architects design provided a hybrid internal/ external event space suitable for both day and night use.
