Boscombe Residence

Boscombe Residence

MJA Studio’s brief was to create an elegant house with an industrial feel, that also responded to the rough-and-tumble of this young family’s coastal lifestyle.

The palette of materials ranges from smooth hard-lined, crisp edges to textured recycled concrete and stone, creating a simple form and a floating presence.

Timber sliding screens and external louvered blinds allow the house to perform as an extension of the outdoor living areas, or act as one large balcony.

A pure box floats over the main form and contains the children’s bedrooms and playroom as well as providing shelter over the large outdoor terraced areas.

This box has operable shutters to one side allowing the sea breeze to flush through the spaces as well as ensure there is no overlooking to the neighbours.
