Janine Allis’ Residence

Janine Allis’ Residence

The Allis Residence is intended to be an expression of those who dwell there. It’s layered, robust, minimalist, elegantly understated and subtly flows from one space to another, connecting the accumulated personality of the family yet remaining true to individuals.

A new build mansion with strong contemporary lines required decoration and design tactics that navigated the contradictions of hard and soft, serious and playful, monumental and domestic. The detailed approach to designing and decorating this home found the synergy between these elements to create a modern, striking yet comfortably beautiful home.

Through clever use of architectural forms and thoughtful material choices the home is filled with hard finishes which appear soft, fixed materials which appear to move and solid materials which appear to float. Throughout the house, aesthetic components harness the elements of nature and humanize the monumentality of the house.

Responding to today’s market yearning for deeper emotional connections, In Design International and Wolf Architects’ client was clear on how she wanted to feel from the outset.

Set this task, In Design International and Wolf Architects delivered via materiality, colour, lighting, texture, proportion and the functional aspects of how the space flows seamlessly

JJA House is an excellent example of intelligent, common sense principles being used to dictate the design. Every interior aesthetic element has been crafted to contribute towards emotional gratification, luxe without bling.

Behind the straight lines of the bold façade, an entirely unexpected interior awaits. Natural daylight, improved airflow and ambience is maximised by an intriguing internal courtyard. Intimate spaces coexist with robust family zones.

Australian designed and manufactured key feature pieces endorse local industry’s ability to remain at the top of their game. Quality and timeless materials were conscientiously selected to adhere to ethical production, low environment impact, and harmonise with long term sustainability.

The owners requested a strong modern ambience without their home feeling extreme or futuristic.

Mindful of the homes contemporary architecture, the result was an elegant, timeless home exuding luxury and grandeur without ostentation.

The split-level nature of the home fully utilises the significant slope of the block to maximise the excellent views and offer an exciting user experience.

The interiors respond directly to the clients brief for robust but elegantly grand and fully utilises the volumes of space crafted by the architect.

Enhanced sustainability was a priority.

Accordingly, the house features a solar farm on the roof feeding basement supply batteries and utilises insulation, double glazing and water recycling, creating a sizeable energy-efficient home. There was also a unanimous intent and passion to use Australian design and made product where possible.

High-quality materials, both natural and synthetic, ensure durability and longevity, paramount to the clients brief. Genuine brass trimmings incorporated into handrails, door handles and feature lighting provided a “quiet luxury” to the homes earthy palette referencing the down to earth character of our client.

The project’s budget enabled luxury finishes aligned with design restraint, conscious that micro details greatly impact the contribution of a focal point in a grand space.

The client for this project, Janine Allis, is not your everyday self-made businesswoman. She grew her juice and smoothie empire in 2000 from her kitchen bench, to an international success story.

Boost Juice Bars are now in 15 countries with the addition of three new hospitality brands, together totaling over 600 stores. Allis has a great passion and love for business which has translated from inception into sales of over two billion dollars globally. Her business approach has made her a leader in her field, with Business Review Weekly listing Janine as one of the top 15 people who have changed the way business is done in the last 25 years.

This project won the Gold Award for DrivenxDesign, Melbourne Design Awards
