This project invoves recycling a detached garage that fronts a rear lane on a tight site in Randwick, NSW, Australia.
The laneway access enabled Ian Bennett Design Studio to design a space that embodies its own aesthetic qualities.
Ian Bennett Design Studio chose recycled brickwork from The BrickPit in Sydney.
The colour of the bricks took the hues of colour from the neighbouring jacaranda flowers. They contrasted with the richness of the horizontal cedar battens.
And the steel beams running the border of the soffit defined the entire space, segregating the garage from the storage room.
